Editorial policy

Our positioning in one line: calm, practical, Australian — we translate the official landscape into steps a tired, stressed person can actually follow at 11pm.

Our rules

  1. Plain English at a Grade 6–8 reading level, per the Australian Government Style Manual. No sentence over 25 words without a reason.
  2. Calm and practical. No fear-mongering headlines, no victim-blaming. It happens to smart people every day.
  3. Trauma-informed. On harm-related topics we lead with what to do now, assume the reader may be shaken, and never use humour in crisis content.
  4. Action-first. Every guide opens with the short version, then the detail.
  5. Official sources, cited. Every guide is fact-checked against official Australian sources and links out to them.
  6. No invented legal advice. We summarise and link to legislation and official guidance.
  7. No commercial influence. No ads, no sponsors, no affiliate links — ever.

Review cycle

Crisis playbooks and scam content are reviewed quarterly; all pages show their review date. Official links are checked monthly and fixed or flagged within 7 days — people in crisis depend on them.

Corrections

Errors get fixed promptly and noted on the page where material. Report them to hello@internetsafety.com.au.
